Capcom preparing to ‘bring out the horror’ with Resident Evil

Regardless of how you feel about the Resident Evil games lately, there's absolutely no denying the franchise has moved from the horror genre into more of an action space. That's fine, if that's what you're into, but there's still a large number of fans pining for that old school scare.

In Dengeki PlayStation's 600th volume, Resident Evil producer Masachika Kawata was asked his thoughts on the series shift towards more of an action feel.

"Since there's been more spinoff titles, I can see how it can be perceived in such a way," he said. "And of course I believe that we should produce titles that bring out the horror. I'm thinking about it and preparing for it."

Capcom recently announced Umbrella Corps, a "fast-paced" online competitive third-person shooter set in the Resident Evil universe. In January 2016, Capcom will also be releasing the Resident Evil Origins Collection, a physical game copy that includes both Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil remakes for Xbox One and PS4.

While there's no lack of Resident Evil games on the way, there's also a desire to see the next numbered installment in the series. When asked about Resident Evil 7, Kawata said there's nothing to talk about just yet, but urged fans to "stay tuned."
