Capcom Talks Switch, Expresses Their Need to Focus on the Console

Two weeks ago, Capcom made a statement about their position on the Nintendo Switch. They stated there was "No Time to Make New Games For a Console Within a Year of Its Launch." This received some rumblings from fans, stating that it wasn't the case for Capcom in previous generations. But the company may change their toon after last week's financial report.

During the report, two Nintendo Switch titles from Capcom, Ultra Street Fighter II and Monster Hunter XX,  turned out to have done quite well. While this is the case, it still seems unclear how the publisher will move forward with the Switch.

In a Q&A session after the financial report, Capcom revealed that they will support the console in their strategy for multiplatform development.

"We feel the favorable performance of the Nintendo Switch, and the impact it is having on reaffirming the status of home video game consoles, are very positive. Going forward we will support the Nintendo Switch based on our fundamental strategy of multiplatform development."

While the multiplatform approach is a good one to consider, the publisher also recognized the need to take advantage of the console's unique features.

"Further, we are cognizant of the need to evaluate further how to best utilize the unique features of this platform, which differ from those of other home video game consoles."

Of the two Switch-Capcom games, only Ultra Street Fighter II made it to the US while Monster Hunter XX remained in the east. Even so, Ultra Street Fighter II received mechanical praise, even though it was criticized for its price for what was essentially a very shiny port. Check out our review of it here.
