During this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, Capcom has graced its fans with some insight on the development of Resident Evil 2 Remake, highlighting the care the team is putting into reimagining the survival-horror classic. The publisher also unveiled the Collector’s Edition for the game and the final design for Claire Redfield.
Capcom has been on a roll, after finally revealing the long-awaited remake for 1998’s classic survival game Resident Evil 2 during this year’s E3. First announced in 2015, Capcom has stayed tight-lipped ever since, to the dismay of many fans. The wait was well worth it however, with the game’s reveal blowing away any expectations. We already knew that Resident Evil 2 wasn’t going go get the same treatment as the Resident Evil 1, which only got a remastered re-release of the game’s GameCube remaster from 2002.
No, Resident Evil 2 Remake is receiving the complete treatment, with a full visual overhaul, rivaling the most current titles in visual fidelity, redesigning the world and gameplay for a modern audience. This re-design also entails the two protagonists of RE2, Leon and Claire. The announcement trailer focused on Leon, depicting the cult Resident Evil character at the start of his adventures.
Now, Capcom is sharing more info on Claire. At this year’s Resident Evil panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, Capcom has unveiled the final new design for Claire Redfield. In a post on the Playstation Blog, Kellen Haney from Capcom shared Claire’s new design with her classic motorcycle. The development team isn’t throwing everything from the classic games away however but takes influence by the classic designs. Haney also emphasizes how the team worked meticulously to depict Racoon City and its zombies as scary and impressive as possible. Using the RE Engine, first seen in Resident Evil 7, RE2 Remake highlights a dark and rainy city overrun by the undead.
During the Resident Evil panel, Capcom also shared details on the Collector’s Edition for RE2 Remake. The Collector’s Edition will be available exclusively through GameStop and EB Games and will cost you a cool $199.99. On top of the game, this edition includes a sweet 12-inch figure of Leon, a digital soundtrack, an art book, a poster and the usual in-game extras in form of skins, weapons and music.
Resident Evil 2 Remake is heading for release on January 25th, 2019 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
