Capcom Addresses Save Feature in The Mercenaries 3D

One of the most criticized features in the recently launched Resident Evil:The Mercenaries 3D is the game’s save feature. The game automatically records content in the form of progress and unlockables, and saves are completely irreversible. In other words, if you buy the game used, don’t expect to earn everything for yourself, but definitely expect to see a bunch of high scores that can’t be deleted.

Many gamers have complained about this feature, and in my estimation, this move makes it incredibly difficult for most people to want to buy the game used. Capcom recently addressed the controversial save function in a special feature on Capcom Unity. It appears the company has realized its mistake, and the folks over at Capcom vow to never disappoint gamers like this in the future.

During the segment, Capcom’s Christian Svensson stated that gamers probably wouldn’t “see something like this happen again.” He also called out the conspiracy theorists and stated that the save feature wasn’t a malicious move like people made it seem. Though I’m pretty sure Capcom never had evil intentions while developing The Mercenaries 3D, it’s good to hear the company address what has been a largely annoying component in their latest title.

Any gamers out there who are interested in The Mercenaries 3D shouldn’t let this silly save thing deter them from making a purchase. The game is a fine effort by Capcom and a good portable title. So if you’re in the mood to shoot mutant freaks and actually care about unlocking your own content, you should definitely check out a new copy of the game.
