Even though the new teaser for Star Trek Beyond has the USS Enterprise being destroyed, and the entire crew being splintered off from each other, it's still decidedly upbeat. I think that's my main takeaway from this teaser, and it has me pretty excited.
I will admit that I'm not the biggest Star Trek fan. Hell, if it wasn't for the 2009 reboot, I probably would have never touched the franchise otherwise, but J.J. Abrams and his studio, Bad Robot, did a pretty great job at making the stories relevant. But the sequel, Into Darkness, took itself a little too seriously. Beyond seems to dial the seriousness back a little bit. Maybe it's the song choice, or the witty lines used in the trailer, but this movie just seems to be more "fun," than serious.
