Last week it was reported that Simon Pegg, who stars as Scottie and has written Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead and The World's End, is co-writing Star Trek 3. Now, one of the film's stars is backing the new writer.
In an interview with MTV News, Chris Pine — who plays Captain Kirk — made a joke about Star Trek 3 becoming a long "Simon Pegg monologue" before talking about how perfect Pegg is for the job:
"We're all really excited because I think what we enjoy about it is that we have a laugh and we want to make sure that that's still kind of embedded in there so to have Simon writing it is the perfect fit."
Star Trek 3 is scheduled to open in theaters on July 8, 2016. It has Justin Lin (Fast & Furious) directing, and Pegg helping write the script.
