Card Hunter heads to Steam picks up an expansion and co-op along the way

The addictive CCG/RPG game moves from strictly browser based and into a wider audience

Card Hunter is a game that can easily suck in fans of old-school tabletop and board gaming and has done exactly since its initial launch back in 2013. As a hybrid of collectable card games and a D&D style RPG system, Blue Manchu’s originally browser based Flash game has a pretty impressive pedigree.

Jon Chey, a co-founder of Irrational Games (Bioshock Infinite, System Shock 2), and writer/game designer Joe McDonagh (Bioshock) are supported by a team with backgrounds in Magic: The Gathering and it really shows with the nostalgia pull this game can leverage while giving winks and nudges to the subculture surrounding traditional analog gameplay.

Thar be dragons

It’s fun and it’s addictive and now it’s coming to Steam later this month. Not only that, but it is also bringing with it a co-op multiplayer for its expansion, Expedition to the Sky Citadel. The new expansion will also be introducing a new Game Master named Cardotron 2000 who the developers promise “is guaranteed 100% bug free and will definitely, never ever, lose its mind and raise an army of mutants and rebellious robots, as Shodan did in System Shock 2.”

A sentinent robot telling you what to do couldn't possibly end badly

If you’ve never had a chance to play this one, the new expanded features will be a great way to introduce yourself and friends to it.

Card Hunter and the first expansion, Attack of the Artifacts, are already available on the official Card Hunter site, with Expedition to the Sky Citadel and distribution via Steam to follow later this month.
