Carrie Fisher has died at the age of 60, her daughter has confirmed.
It was reported last week that the actress had been hospitalised, following a cardiac arrest that she had suffered during a flight from London to Los Angeles.
However, today the news of her passing has left her family in "deep sadness," a feeling that will undoubtedly resonate with many people across the world – and certainly the GameZone team.
Fisher, of course, was best known for the strong female character that she played in Star Wars, as Princess Leia, but she did enjoy success with her other ventures in acting, as an author and as a mental health advocate.
Her parents Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher ensured that she was brought into the unpredictable world of television, and after studying acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, England, Carrie Fisher got her first Hollywood role in a 1975 romantic satire movie, Shampoo.
But it was in 1977 where Carrie Fisher arrived on the big stage. She landed an acting position in George Lucas' Star Wars series, taking on the role of soon-to-be-announced sister of Luke Skywalker.
Aside from that, Fisher enjoyed further successes in The Blues Brothers, The Man with One Red Shoe, Woody Allen’s Hannah and Her Sisters and When Harry Met Sally.
We offer our condolences to her family, friends and may the force be with her on the other side.
Rest in peace, Carrie Fisher – an icon.
