Castle Crashers gets remastered, invades Xbox One next week

And it will be free for some people (for a little while).

The Behemoth has revealed that their popular Xbox 360 game from 2008 is getting cleaned up and heading to to the Xbox One. Castle Crashers Remastered will makes its gorgeous shinier release on the Xbox One on September 9th, which isn't too far away at all!

The Remastered version takes the 30FPS game and pushes it into the 60FPS world with improved textures that are five times larger than they were on the Xbox 360. There are gameplay tweaks, performance updates and a whole new minigame called Back Off Barbarian coming with the remaster.

Here's what the Back Off Barbarian minigame is like, as described by Behemoth:

Back Off Barbarian is a simple but addicting mini-game where players move quickly using the D-Pad to avoid the enemies. As time passes, more enemies are added into the level and the players will find it harder to get around in the environment. Up to 4 players can be supported online or offline.

Owning Castle Crashers on the Xbox 360 will get you some special treatment, if you download the game before September 20th you get the game for free. If you wait until September 21st or later, the prive gently bumps up to $5. If you have yet to crash any castles in your Xbox career, the game will cost you $15. An original update-less version of the game will eventually be making its way on the Xbox One through backwards compatibility, but there's no word on when that will be.
