It's beginning to seem that a Castle of Illusion remake or port is a real thing. XLBA digital box art has appeared, indicating that a formal announcement for an Xbox 360, PS3, Vita, and Wii U release — previously outed by Brazilain ratings board DJCTQ — is just around the corner.
There seems to be a catch, though. As you can see in the side-by-side comparison, the cover art for the XBLA version is dramatically different than that of which appeared on the cover for the original SEGA Genesis version. Does this mean we're getting a full-scale remake of the Castle of Illusion? It's certainly not out of the question. Capcom last month revealed DuckTales Remastered, a complete remake of the 1989 NES original, featuring enhanced visuals and a more in-depth backstory that provides context for the gameplay. Surprisingly, the remake has been greeted with an overwhelmingly positive response.
Would the same hold true for a Castle of Illusion remake? After all, we did just have Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, Disney and Junction Point's spiritual sequel for the Nintendo 3DS. While the official GameZone review scored it 8/10, there were some mixed reactions to the platformer.
