After a decade of failed planning, it’s finally happening. Castlevania is coming to the screen. However, it’s not coming as a live-action adaptation which was originally planned. Producer Adi Shankhar has a dream, and it’s in the form of a gruesome animated miniseries.
Comic Book Resources reported that, “The producer of “Dredd” and the “Punisher: Dirty Laundry”, and “Power/Rangers” shorts has announced he’s developing a “super violent” adaptation of 1989’s “Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse” with Frederator…” Frederator is an animation studio that is responsible for works such as “Fairly OddParents” and “Adventure Time.”
Just for a refresher, “Castlevania III” was a prequel to the first game. You play as Trevor Belmont, on his journey to find and destroy Dracula. You’re aided by Dracula’s son, Alucard, and Sypha Belnades, a young sorceress.
When someone goes out on a limb and their going to do a super-violent series, there’s always the question of “How much is super?” Collider asked Shankar and his response was “There will be a lot. The goal is to bring hard hitting anime to the America and be America’s first animated series for adults.” If you want to know more about his line of thinking we’ve been pointed in the direction of “Young Justice,” “Akira,” “Ghost in the Shell,” and “Ninja Scroll.” This is all very exciting. Decapitation with a killer whip is imminent, and we couldn’t be happier.
