Developer Mercury Steam, currently delivering Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, is also working on a mysterious next-gen title for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Unfortunately, like most third-party developers, they will be skipping out on the Wii U.
Speaking to GameSpot during a roundtable interview session, producer Dave Cox confirmed the project, but wouldn't go into detail beyond its platforms or why they were skipping the Wii U.
But while a new game is planned for the newer consoles, Cox finally acknowledged that Lords of Shadow 2 will not be brought over to the Xbox One or PS4. The option was considered in 2013, but ultimately Konami decided not to port the game due to game engine issues. "It would mean kind of taking five steps back," Cox explained. And while a port in the future may be a possibility, it's not in the developer's plans right now.
Lords of Shadow 2 is due out for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on February 25. It is the last title in the series to be developed by Mercury Steam, though the series could move forward with a new studio should Konami decide.
