CES 2015: Android gaming console ‘Obox’ revealed

It seems like the dream of home consoles for Android gaming is a dream that developers won't leave behind (consider the OUYA and Amazon's upcoming home Android gaming console). At CES, a Chinese tech company named Snail displayed two Android gaming products – one a handheld and the other a home console, both dubbed the Obox.

The portable Obox, the Obox W3D, is powered by a 32-bit NVIDIA Tegra K1 — similar to the Shield Tablet. The screen has a 1080p Full HD resolution and allows for 3D play. The 3D play is similar to the 3DS' considering you don't need glasses to see the 3D. You can check out the Obox in the image on the upper right, its design is similar to the Vita's (in essence, this handheld is similar to a mix of other handhelds). The interesting feature that the Obox W3D boasts is that its 3D play does not require the game's developer to do extra work (according to Snail).

The home console version on the Obox is not an entirely different beast in comparison to its smaller more portable brother. The in-home android gaming console is about the same size as an Xbox One, has anywhere between takes the Nvidia K1avec hard drives and runs with about 500GB and 6TB of room. The disparity between 500GB and 6TB comes from the company looking offer lower-cost devices. The console runs with a shiny fingerprint soaking controller (in the gallery on the upper right).

Snail's Obox will play any and all of Android games and will hopefully play them well. No prices or release dates are available yet.
