Chair Entertainment creative director Donald Mustard compares Infinity Blade 3 to Skyrim

Chair Entertainment, the developer of Infinity Blade 3, thinks that the game is a console-quality title and "truly a next-gen gaming experience." Ya know, if next-gen console games consisted of swipe, swipe, swipe, tap, swipe. Co-founder and creative director Donald Mustard made these comments in an interview with GameSpot, and he even justified his comments by comparing Infinity Blade 3 to The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.

Mustard said, "We think that Infinity Blade 3 is a console-quality experience, and to me, it's truly a next-gen gaming experience. It's like, forget the next consoles, this is the future of gaming. This kind of combination of really, really refined deep gameplay with beautiful graphics on a device that's with me all the time."

I think we need to work on his definition of deep, because last time I played an Infinity Blade game, I recall just swiping and tapping my touchscreen again and again. Mustard, who was found with the candlestick in the study, also went on to talk about how teenagers are starting to consume things, and that having to "sit down on my couch and interact with" will be "a fairly foreign concept to them."

This sounds an awful lot like the whole "PC is dead" argument. Let's get this straight; my firm belief is that the iPhone will continue to grow as a great mobile gaming device, and it will probably be the best one for the foreseeable future. It's really convenient and the tech is allowing for some really cool experiences. But do they come close to matching what can be offered on a PC or next-gen console? No! And if you think they do, then you're probably playing Candy Crush with my dad right now.

Now, he doesn't think the console market is failing; he just questioned whether it was expanding or not. To drive the point home, he went into the "almost instant" load times when compared to console games. He pointed out that loading screens are often less than one second, and called out the 45-second loading times from Bethesda's open-world RPG Skyrim. That's right — one-second load times for a game where you follow a set path and just swipe and tap compared to a huge open world where you can go wherever you want and pretty much do anything you want.

Listen, Infinity Blade 3 will be a fun, gorgeous game. But come on man…

Infinity Blade 3 will release on September 18 right before the release of the iPhone 5C and 5S on September 20.
