Check out the first teaser trailer for System Shock 3

It's the first game footage ever!

OtherSide Entertainment has released the very first footage of System Shock 3. This marks the first time that a new game in highly-acclaimed first-person action-RPG series is shaping into form.

Admittedly, it’s not much what we get to see in this trailer. In fact, it’s barely over half a minute long but at least what is on offer here is all in-game footage. And let’s be honest, after the franchise basically went into hibernation 20 years ago, it’s almost a miracle that a new game is coming out at all.

And from what we are seeing, System Shock 3 looks to preserve the same sci-fi atmosphere drenched in a thick horror veneer. Exactly what fans of the legendary series were hoping for. Things could have gone oh so bad, so easily. A quick look at some other classic game franchises who have been rebooted to less than stellar fan reaction suffices.

Developer OtherSide Entertainment has been long at work on System Shock 3 already and even managed to secure game designer icon Warren Spector among its ranks, further boosting confidence that this third entry will indeed be something special and not just a subpar reboot that coasts on name recognition alone. Warren Spector of course is the mastermind behind the original System Shock, Thief and Deus Ex games. Truly a legend among game designers and without a doubt a huge boon for System Shock 3.

Sadly, there is no release date for the game but the developer stated in a blog post last month that development was halfway completed. This, of course, doesn’t mean that another several years of development are upon us even if financial troubles with the original publisher Starbreeze led to OtherSide Entertainment parting ways. Quite the contrary, getting a first look at the System Shock 3 in form of a teaser and screenshots is more sign that 2019 could be big year for the game.
