Platinum Games, best known for their love of over-the-top action that spawned Vanquish, Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, today revealed the first gameplay footage of their upcoming Legend of Korra game.
As expected of the studio, Legend of Korra plays like a third-person brawler. True to its source material, though, chainsaw katanas and quad-pistols have been swapped for the four elements Korra, the Avatar, wields in the Nickelodeon series.
Platinum’s iconic flare is very prominent in the game, however. Hardcore hack-and-slash fans and action newcomers just anxious to see the story fleshed out are both welcome thanks to multiple difficulty settings. Much like Bayonetta’s dabbling in racing, combat appears to be broken up by sections of riding Korra’s animal companion Naga through Temple Runner-esque races.
Platinum expects a single playthrough of the game to last around four hours, but for players to replay the game three or more times after unlocking new abilities and difficulty settings.
The Legend of Korra will release as a download-only title for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC this fall.
