Check out the Monster Hunter movie’s first official trailer

Courtesy of IGN, we now have the first real trailer for the upcoming Monster Hunter movie. As expected, it’s full to the brim with non-stop action and looks better than we feared. Watch it below!

Written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, the movie adaption of the hugely popular Monster Hunter video game franchise is slated to debut very soon. The projected release date in cinemas is December 30th. The Coronavirus pandemic has delayed many movies and games, however, and as such we wouldn’t be shocked if that changed.

Paul W.S. Anderson might not immediately ring a bell but the director has plenty of experience in bringing video games to the big screens. The long-lasting Resident Evil movie franchise is his work after all.

Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity.

Furthermore, Milla Jovovich who starred in the Resident Evil movies is again starring in the Monster Hunter movie. Together with Thai martial artist Tony Jaa from Ong Bak fame. You shouldn’t expect a pure video game conversion here though.

The Monster Hunter movie pits a small band of US soldiers in the fantastical world of giant monsters via a dimensional rift. As such, expect plenty of military action movie goodness with a Monster Hunter flair. At least, that’s what we got from the trailer. Still, the production quality is fairly high, sporting some really great CG and bombastic action.

The movie is just the latest in a line of great Monster Hunter content after the outstanding MH World elevated the franchise from Nintendo handhelds into much more powerful and broader home console space. A Nintendo Switch exclusive title is also in the works and will be available next spring. Very good times for Monster Hunter fans.
