The Chinese government has been resistant to allowing Pokemon Go to operate in the country, but a state censor is putting the final nail in the coffin in the game.
The popular augmented reality game is not being allowed to be licensed due to serious concerns over safety and security.
According to Reuters, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, is coordinating with other government departments to evaluate the game's risks, citing "a high level of responsibility to national security and the safety of people's lives and property."
Said “risks” include the "threat to geographical information security and the threat to transport and the personal safety of consumers.”
This shouldn’t be surprising coming from an oppressive regime like the Chinese government. In fact, Iran also banned the game. However, Pokemon Go has created some security problems here in the states after some people were robbed while playing the game.
Despite those concerns, the game was incredibly popular when it launched, and has even done some good for people like helping a Japanese grandmother get healthier.
