Breakout star Chris Pine has reportedly closed a deal to play Steve Trevor in the upcoming Wonder Woman film. According to "insiders" for TheWrap, it's naturally a multi-picture deal that includes sequel options.
Steve Trevor is the primary love interest of Wonder Woman, though TheWrap reports "there will be plenty of action to keep him busy." In the comics, Trevor was an intelligence officer in the United States Army during World War II. His plane crashed on Paradise Island, homeland of the Amazons, where he was nursed back to health by the Amazon princess Diana (Wonder Woman) who followed him when he returned to the normal world. She goes on to become Wonder Woman, as well as his co-worker under the identity Diana Prince. It's unclear if the movie will follow this exact premise, but the notion that there will be action surrounding Trevor indicates we could see some sort of flashback.
There were rumors that Pine was up for the role in WB's upcoming Green Lantern Corps, but it looks like that's no longer the case. Instead, he will play opposite Gal Gadot, who will actually make her debut as Wonder Woman in next year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25, 2016. We got our first look at the actress in the role in the latest trailer (above) which debuted at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this month.
It's unclear how big a role Wonder Woman will have in Batman v Superman, but her own standalone feature film is slated to hit theaters on June 23, 2017.
