CI Games producer laid off after Sniper Ghost Warrior 3’s failure

EDIT: We previously stated that Tomasz Gop was the CEO of CI Games. He was not, he was a producer. We've edited the article to reflect this.

CI Games, the developer of the Sniper Ghost Warrior series and Lords of the Fallen, has released a number of staff members including Lords of the Fallen's producer  following the disappointing reception of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 which released in April of this year.

Polish website Graczpospolita spoke with the former producer, Tomasz Gop, following his departure. Gop noted that he was let go following the company's decision to cut costs. The following quote is a very rough translation taken from Google Translate.

"I was released from CI. Probably the reduction of the so- > Fixed costs <. After the Ancestors I do not have to expect because I already played and see what the team is capable of in Gliwice. In any case, the world at Gamescom will see the game in action. Working on RTS is a huge challenge for me, because I do not know much about it. Anyway, I treat it as a good test for my innate modesty and the maxim that I confess: everyone can learn something. And how did it happen that I was working in DC? Jarek has long ago declared that he would like to work with me and does not mind that I do not know too much about the RTS genre, because it would be great in the future to do a project that both of us do, "says Tomasz Gop.

As mentioned, Gop has moved on to developer Ancestors to work on RTS games. Leading up to the release of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, CI Games was hoping the entry would turn things around for the series. The two previous games weren't received incredibly well and sadly, the third game was plagued with issues that lead to poor sales and very negative reviews. The game also launched without its multiplayer mode, which still hasn't released, and supposedly they still plan to release it later this year.

CI Games reported a $1.6 million loss at the end of the first quarter and the company's stock has dropped substantially since the release of Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3. CI Games has already publicly come out and said that making an open world Sniper Ghost Warrior game was a mistake and that they've already begun work on their next tactical shooter which they promise will be better.

Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 is out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
