Citadel Studios’ Shards Online making a push for Steam

Citadel Studios recently announced the start of their Steam Greenlight campaign to bring their MMO, Shards Online, to steam.  Derek Brinkmann, the founder and CEO of Citadel states:

“Today marks a big milestone for Shards Online. We’re nearing ever closely to the Steam early access launch and we thought ‘What better way to show the world what we’ve been working on than with an epic new trailer. The Steam Greenlight campaign is just the icing on the cake as it allows our fans to tell Valve they want to see our game on their platform as soon as possible.”

With major server stress tests on the way and excited to progress to early access, Citadel will be giving players a chance to win several free 7 day trial keys by signing up and opting for updates on their official site.

“We’re ecstatic to see how players adapt to our unique sandbox gameplay, our boundless skill progression, and the idea of entire worlds, created, modded and run by player-gods. It’s also an exciting time, because once we have a few more features and bug fixes ironed out, we’ll be starting our Steam Early Access period and that’s when the fun truly begins!”

Shards Online is an MMO in the style reminiscent of the Ultima series. It claims to want to break away from the modern uses of levels, classes and quest grinds and instead opt for virtual worlds and stories that come about naturally. Initially aiming for a PC release with plans for a Mac and Linux launch in the works. Players will be able to run and moderate their own game worlds with potential support for thousands of users at one time. You will be able to to customize every aspect of your server experience from gameplay to the world itself. The game boasts a myriad of features for those that decide to opt for instant access including:

  • Player Housing
  • Deep Storylines
  • Crafting
  • Creature Taming
  • Titles
  • Faction System
  • Guilds
  • Community Servers and Mods

Along with these features Shards Online claims to have limitless content and the opportunity to become a creator of worlds. If you are interested in gaining instant access you can visit their official website.
