Cities: Skylines hits 500K in sales, first patch incoming

A day after Cities: Skylines launched it had sold 250,000 copies of the game with a piracy rate of 0% (it went up to 16% the following day). Since then, the game hasn't slowed down too much in sales — in fact, it has reached 500K in sales since release (no idea on the amount of copies that have been illegally obtained).

First, Paradox Interactive wants to thank everyone who has supported them thus far. In return of player support, the first official update to the game is coming. While Cities: Skylines had a smooth launch, that doesn't mean that there aren't any bugs.

The developers have been scouring community forums and have listed any bugs or issues players have encountered. Each bit of player feedback has been logged and prioritized. What will the first update focus on? A couple of things (and then some, these are only the most important fixes in the update):

  • Black screen on start-up
  • Grey Load/New Game button
  • Save issues (corrupted saves, saves not saving, cloud not working properly)
  • Poor performance on high end computers (mostly Linux)

The devs are also keeping a close eye on the following issues under discussion:

  • Commercial demand possibly being "killed" by parks and rec.
  • Potential traffic AI issues/improvements
  • Cause/effect for workers getting to their jobs

As the issues/bugs are not widely encountered, the devs have decided to take their time with the update. This might be unnerving to those facing issues, but they are taking their time so that the first patch doesn't break anything more than it fixes it.
