Living in Florida, the changing of seasons is, unfortunately, something I'll never get to experience. Thankfully, Paradox Interactive has got me covered with the next expansion for Cities: Skylines.
Titled, "Snowfall," the new expansion — as the name suggests — brings a new weather system to Colossal Order's widely-praised city-builder. Most of the new features and content included in Snowfall will revolve around this in-game weather system.
"In Snowfall, the difficulty heats up when the city cools down, thanks to a new in-game temperature reading that will have residents bundling up for warmth when the weather outside is frightful," Paradox said of the new expansion. "'Snowfall will allow mayor-players to expand and grow their cities using new transportation options while challenging them to meet citizens’ needs using several new in-game tools."
Cosmetic weather, composed of rain and fog, will be added to Cities: Skylines as part of a free update, along with other soon-to-be-announced features. However, players who own Snowfall will face "new challenges" such as ensuring their city infrastructure can handle the season demands. To help combat the weather, you'll have a new snowplow service, all-weather trams and expanded public transit options. New winter parks and landmarks will also be added in Snowfall.
Snowfall will be available for Cities: Skylines "later this year." By the Christmas-vibe I get from the trailer, I feel like it would be weird to release during the summer; it seems better fit for a October-December release window, even though winter technically runs through March. Again, maybe it's because I live in Florida that I have no real frame for actual seasons.
