Civilization V: Brave New World looks to make you more cultured

In an attempt to make the cultural victory mode in Civilization V less passive, the entire system has been redone to allow for more exciting gameplay for those of you who prefer a more refined and cultured playstyle. No longer will you just sit back, hide, become true isolationists, and pray a large army never comes your way – now you’re going to be actually fighting a new type of battle: a war of tourism and culture. This is part of the second expansion, a Brave New World.

As the video below says, think of tourism as offense and culture as your defense. If your tourism becomes greater than the culture of all other competing civilizations, you win, holmes. Through archeology and the making of themed great works, you can put the favor in your hands and rule the world through glorious culture. Conquest victories were SO last year.
