Clash of Clans Halloween update coming ‘soon’; here’s what we know

Boost improvements, Clan improvements, and Skeleton Traps

As you're probably aware by now Clash of Clans is getting a new spooky Halloween update. And according to developer Supercell, it's coming "soon." Unfortunately, we just don't know how soon, though we have a sneaking suspicion it'll be released tomorrow, or later this week at the latest.

For the past few days, Supercell Games has provided us with sneak peeks at new features arriving with the new update, and while we wait, we might as well go over what we know about it so far.

Halloween Items

Getting into the Halloween spirit, the update will offer a number of graphical enhancements including:

  • Bats swirling around the strike location of a Lightning spell
  • Mushrooms designed to look like creepy carved pumpkins
  • Trees with faces and glowing eyes; trunks with carved faces
  • Bushes surrounded with pumpkins

Perhaps most intriguing though, is the Halloween Headstone — a gravestone with a hand reaching out of the ground — which can be removed for 25,000 Elixir.

Clan Improvements

Clash of Clans Clan Settings

Although this is being hyped as a "Halloween" update, the major focus seems to be on quality of life improvements for Clans.

The most major improvement comes with increased Clan Settings and advanced Clan Search. Clan leaders will now be able to set a location (by country or international), war frequency, member count, and more. Not only will this help players find clans that fit their playstyle, but it'll help clans recruit more loyal players as well.

Making things even easier, each Clan will also be assigned a specific Clan Tag, a hashtag specific to each clan that can be searched by players to find the exact results.

Troop Boosting Improvements

Another quality of life improvement, the update will enable a feature that pauses boosting when the game goes into maintenance. When the game returns, however, you must remember to hit "resume" to continue boosting. Hitting resume will enable boosting again for all buildings of the same type.

Skeleton Trap

Skeleton Trap

The last major feature teased (who knows if there will be some surprises) was the Skeleton Trap. Available at Town Hall 8, this trap can be used to ambush and distract your enemies. The small group of Skeleton Troops, which can be upgraded to deploy more skeletons at once, will grab the attention of attacking units, giving your other defenses time to attack. The Skeleton Trap can target air or ground troops, depending on how you assign it.

That's all Supercell has teased so far, promising the update will arrive "soon."
