Classic Resident Evil inspired ‘Daymare: 1998’ hits Kickstarter

Bringing back old school horror.

With Capcom taking the Resident Evil series into a new direction with first-person gameplay instead of sticking to the familiar over-the-shoulder gameplay, it seems like more traditional survival horror games won't be seeing the light of day anytime soon. Fortunately, some indie devs are looking to change that.

Indie developer Invader Studios, who worked on the Resident Evil 2 fan remake, is looking bring back the old school survival horror genre with Daymare: 1998. According to the developers, Daymare: 1998 is "meant to bring back the atmosphere, the feeling and the mood of the 80s' and 90s' most beloved video games and movies."

We got our first glimpse of Daymare: 1998's gameplay back in December, but we just got a lot more details thanks to the freshly launched Kickstarter campaign. The Kickstarter campaign has detailed that Daymare: 1998 will feature "hardcore" survival mechanics over action mechanics, puzzles, tough enemies and more.

Invader Studios is looking to raise $190,377 to develop the game for PC. If the goal is met and surpassed, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game will be developed.
