CNN: Only 10 Percent of Players Finish Games

In a report featured on CNN.com just two days ago, numbers revealed that only around ten percent of gamers finish their games.

The report, written by CNN’s Blake Snow, quotes numerous figures in the gaming industry over the matter. Activision’s production contractor Keith Fuller told Snow, “What I’ve been told as a blanket expectation is that 90 percent of players who start your game will never see the end of it unless they watch a clip on YouTube.”

Another figure in the industry, John Lee, VP of marketing at Raptr and formerly of Capcom, THQ, and Sega, added that the number of players not completing games have risen in recent years. “Just 10 years ago, I recall some standard that only 20% of gamers ever finish a game.”

While this ten percent is a rough estimate taken from select services, most analysts agree that the number is anywhere from 10-20%. Several reasons for these shrinking numbers are the drastic rise in the popularity of multiplayer, playtime being minimized by other duties, and other technological advancements such as Twitter and smartphones.
