Co-Op hack-and-slasher Minecraft Dungeons is out now

Mojang’s Diablo-like action-RPG spin-off from the massively popular sandbox game Minecraft is out today. Owners of a PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC gamers can now explore dangerous caverns and fight all kinds of new mobs in Minecraft Dungeons. Watch the launch trailer here!

Even after 10 years, Minecraft still remains the gaming sensation all across the world. The cutesy sandbox miner/creative toolset has already implanted itself into an entire generation with people all across walks of life enjoying the seemingly endless possibilities the game offers.

But despite the insane success of the game, there are curiously low spin-off games in the universe. The adventure spin-off Minecraft Story Mode didn’t really manage to hit the same heights of its genre ilks like The Walking Dead, neither is the ambitious Augmented Reality mobile experience Minecraft Earth. Later is still in early access so there’s the benefit of the doubt.

Bumped your head recently and can’t remember what the deal is with this game? Well, put down that iron pickaxe and grab a proper weapon, because the Arch-Illager is on the loose – and it’s up to you to save the world from his evil plan! Inspired by classic dungeon crawlers, Minecraft Dungeons allows up to four players to team up – online or in the living room. It retains the original game’s blocky charm, but instead of mining and crafting, you will be fighting and exploring through action-packed, treasure-stuffed, and wildly varied levels to defeat relentless swarms of new-and-nasty mobs.

But with Minecraft Dungeons, Mojang has finally crafted a game ought to branch the IP in a better way. And the key to it was in front of our noses all the time, too. Players already ventured into all kinds of dangerous caves, fighting various monsters for special loot. So, the decision to make a proper hack-and-slash dungeon crawler is actually the perfect fit. Add on to it four-player co-op and you have a recipe for some jolly good mayhem.

At only $19.99 for the base game and $29.99 together with the season pass, it’s a no-brainer for fans of the genre and Minecraft in general.
