Co-op puzzler Tiny Brains headed to PS4

Spearhead Games' co-op puzzler Tiny Brains is headed to the PlayStation 4, the indie studio confirmed today. For those unfamiliar, Tiny Brains is set in a lab where four super-powered animals work together to solve puzzles in hopes of escaping a mad scientist's experiment. While the announcement of the PS4 as a platform was the big news, company co-founder Simon Darveau did take the opportunity to talk about life as an indie developer, and how being an "indie studio" has changed the approach towards developing a game.

"We have a “no design doc” policy at Spearhead. Being able to do this has been one of the best things about going indie, and the philosophy helps us make significant creative developments in a short amount of time," Darveau said. "With no design docs, we can think about how to make the best experience at all times. When a designer has a cool idea for a puzzle or level, they just make it, and we all play it together. From there we decide whether the prototype should be incorporated, tweaked, or chucked."

It's these types of strategies and work flows that get me excited about the PS4 and Sony's willingness to cater to indie developers. No longer shackled and restricted by the demands of a giant publisher, this freedom to explore creative ideas will undoubtedly result in plenty of unique and innovative games for the PS4.
