Code Name S.T.E.A.M. update prepares for 3DS NFC Reader

If you visit the Nintendo eShop today, you'll find an update for Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. to bring it to Version 1.2.0. Whereas the previous update added the optional feature to speed up enemy turns, this update prepares non-New Nintendo 3DS XL units for the 3DS NFC Reader, to come later this year.

For those who play the game using a standard Nintendo 3DS, heading into Code Name S.T.E.A.M.'s player select screen will now show a message about tapping an amiibo icon to add Robin, Lucina, Marth and/or Ike to the game, something that previously only appeared if you played using a New Nintendo 3DS XL with its built-in amiibo reader.

Clearly, preparations are underway by Nintendo to launch the device, but have players made preparations to secure one or more of the uncommon Fire Emblem amiibo?
