Bad news for players who were looking forward to Bandai Namco’s upcoming action-RPG Code Vein. The publisher announced today their decision to delay the game’s release into an undisclosed date in 2019.
The delay comes as surprising news since just last month Bandai Namco announced the release date for Code Vein to be this September. Whatever the concrete reasons might be for the publisher to go from announcing a release date to delaying the game in such a short time span, we will have to be content with the publisher’s statement regards the delay.
“CODE VEIN has received an enormous amount of positive feedback from eager fans who have received hands-on time with in-development versions of the game over the past nine months. Armed with knowledge of how well the game has already been received, we made the decision to postpone the release of CODE VEIN to further refine its gameplay in an effort to exceed the expectations fans already have of the title. It was a difficult decision to make, but we feel it is the correct one.”
Troubled development is anything but a rarity in the game industry but if we take into account how early on Bandai Namco shared – what looked like – polished gameplay, story and character trailers, and the unexpected positive waves Code Vein made across the gaming community, I wouldn’t be surprised if the delay was a tactical move to further polish and add features to a game even the publisher was surprised at how much attention it got from the gaming community. In other words, this might not be a case where the development team is having issues reaching a deadline but a promising project getting extra time in the oven to become an even bigger success than initially expected.
Of course, this is all speculation, just like some cynical posts across the internet who judge Code Vein’s delay as a business decision to avoid a release packed September. Whatever the reasons might be, for now we did not receive any word on a new concrete release date. So stay tuned for any news regards Code Vein.
