Director Colin Trevorrow is wasting little time in readying himself for the massive task that is Star Wars: Episode IX.
Taking the Twitter, the filmmaker tweeted a photo of an official Lucasfilm notebook, with the message, "Back to school."
Despite the early prep work, it'll likely be some time before Episode IX enters production. Episode IX, which will conclude the third trilogy in the core Star Wars saga, is slated to hit theaters in 2019. And Trevorrow is currently working on a few other projects, including scripting Jurassic Park 5.
However, given Star Wars' massive lore, and Lucasfilm's strict rules and restrictions regarding its prized franchise, I'm not surprised to see Trevorrow doing some early homework.
Trevorrow was confirmed as the director of Episode IX last month at the D23 Expo, referring to his role on the film as "not a job or an assignment. It is a seat at a campfire, surrounded by an extraordinary group of storytellers, filmmakers, artists and craftspeople." Trevorrow is said to already be collaborating with other Star Wars directors and production teams.
The new Star Wars trilogy kicks off this December with the J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. Rian Johnson is both writing and directing Episode VIII, which hits theaters on May 26, 2017.
