War Thunder, the massive combined-arms action game is expanding the range of vehicle types in form of helicopters. As the developer states in their news announcement, combat helicopters play an important role in warfare and are an essential part of a country’s air force. Thus, the inclusion to War Thunder should be great news for players.

For the start, 4 iconic helicopter models will be available from the two major factions, the USA and the USSR, with vehicles from other nations to follow later. In the trailer, we get a look at the first batch of propelled war machines, the legendary Huey alongside a Cobra for the US side. The USSR receives Cold War legend Hind and lesser known Mi-4.

The combat helicopters will arrive with the next major update to War Thunder in September across all platform, PC, PS4 and Xbox One. But you can already pre-order the Huey and Hind if you are not interested in earning it through grinding. Just be aware each will cost you a pretty penny going for $39.99 a piece.

The developer states that once the combat helicopters arrive, you will have to choice of four control options just like for planes. The easiest way will be mouse aim with extensive autopilot features. The other modes will offer a more challenging simulator-like experience while giving the player the chance to customize and adjust various flight characteristics to your liking. For purists or wannabe aces, there will be a full-on simulation mode for that hardcore experience.
