Confirmed: Matt Reeves is officially directing ‘The Batman’

After breaking off negotiations which made it seem like he was stepping away from the project, Matt Reeves has officially signed on to direct the solo Batman film, The Batman. Batman himself Ben Affleck was supposed to helm the film but eventually dropped out in order to focus on developing the character. Affleck will remain on as a writer and producer and of course the star (however, even that is slightly questionable), but Reeves will direct the film.

“We are thrilled to have Matt Reeves taking the helm of Batman, the crown jewel of our DC slate. Matt’s deep roots in genre films and his evolution into an emotional world-building director make him the perfect filmmaker to guide the Dark Knight through this next journey.” said Toby Emmerich, Chief Content Officer and President of Warner Bros. in a statement.

Reeves has directed two of the three most recent Planet of the Ape movies including the upcoming War of the Planet of the Apes. It's clear Reeves is passionate about the character and he may have wrestled with WB and DC in order to get creative control hence why negotiations initially broke down.

“I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.” said Reeves.

The Batman was previously scheduled for an October 2018 release but it's unclear if it'll hit that date now. For more updates on The Batman, stay tuned to GameZone.
