After an investor briefing last week, we learned that Star Wars Battlefront 2 would be bigger and better, according to EA CFO Blake Jorgensen. But what we didn't learn from that briefing was the status of a single-player campaign, until now.
DICE has officially confirmed the inclusion of a single-player story for Star Wars Battlefront 2. DICE producer Paul Keslin tells Eurogamer, "Myself as a Star Wars fan, I want story, I want narrative, I want something I can play that immerses me in that world but gives me something to follow and chase."
Motive Studio, who has a hand in the in-progress Star Wars action-adventure title currently being worked on by Visceral, has also been asked to assist DICE with Battlefront 2. In his interview with Eurogamer, it's confirmed that they are working on the campaign specifically. Keslin later explains his feelings on the connective tissue between a campaign and the already successful multiplayer experience.
"That's a lot of what we've talked about in terms of DICE's identity and how we approach games. We're partnering up with some folks from Motive – they have their own take on how things are – but we have a very close relationship with them, and we want everything to feel like a coherent experience […] We don't want it where single player isn't that great but multiplayer has this great thing and isn't connected."
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is due out next year, but the new DLC for the first title called Rogue One: Scarif is out now and the team had been learning on the job how to approach the sequel while finishing Scarif. Perhaps a portion of their lessons learned can be picked from this new DLC.
