Control Ultimate Edition revealed, Required for free next-gen upgrade

Fans aren't happy

Publisher 505 Games has unveiled an ultimate edition for Remedy’s excellent shooter Control. This edition will include all DLC and is slated to launch on current-gen and next-gen systems and will be the only version of the game eligible for a free next-gen upgrade. Check out the trailer below!

Remedy’s Control is a great third-person shooter with a supernatural twist. Something the developer has already proven to be well-versed in with the Alan Wake series. Sadly, it proved to be a bit too obtuse for many gamers with the game’s themes. A shame, since Control is one of Remedy’s best games to date which you can read more about in our review.

And it looks like a new business decision isn’t going to help much in further improving the situation. In a time where most AAA games offer free next-gen upgrades to owners of current-versions, publisher 505 Games has opted to go a different route.

Users will have to own the upcoming Control Ultimate Edition to eligible for a free next-gen upgrade. Everybody who already owns the game and its DLC is out of luck here. They’ll practically have to buy a second time altogether. A pretty brutal blow for the rabid fanbase of Control who has been instrumental in creating free promotion over the sleeper hit.

It is what it is though. Further complicating the Control Ultimate Edition is the staggered release for it. You can check it out in detail below.
