Microsoft introduced Windows users to their new digital personal assistant, Cortana, with the recent release of Windows 10. The Siri rival has exited its private beta phase on Android and has entered its public beta phase, making it available to anyone who wants to test it out.
The public beta is only available in the United States at the moment, but will be available in more markets in the future. Cortana has been confirmed to be releasing on both iOS and Android devices, only the Android version has made its way into a public beta.
Android and iOS versions of Cortana may run differently per operating system, considering how differently each system is built (Android is much more open to developers). These two versions will be inherently different from the Windows 10 version of Cortana. The Windows version has specific features built specifically to honor Cortana.
The differences users will experience on Android and iOS will be the omission of "Hey Cortana" being a function — leaving them no ability to open apps with voice commands and toggling settings. These features won't be available at launch, but may be added later on.
