Crysis Remastered headed for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch

Industry insider lashman a.k.a. @RobotBrush has unearthed that Crytek is working on a remaster for their breakout hit Crysis. The savvy person found plenty of details about Crysis Remastered via the game’s official website’s metadata. Crytek has since taken all materials offline but thanks to lashman, we have plenty of details on hand.

According to lashman’s findings, Crysis Remastered is going to feature enhanced visuals in the form of new textures and cutting-edge graphical features. Ray tracing is mentioned among these. You might have heard about ray tracing in recent months since both Microsoft and Sony have been touting it heavily while marketing their next-gen consoles.

“Crysis Remastered brings new graphic features, high-quality textures, and the CRYENGINE’s native hardware- and API-agnostic ray tracing solution for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and – for the very first time – Nintendo Switch.”

Since Crytek is a powerhouse on a technical level, it also doesn’t come as a surprise that the company has opted to use an in-house, proprietary solution for ray tracing, instead of using either one of the widely-used DirectX or Vulcan feature sets. It does look like the remaster is going to become a statement by Crytek to show that they still reign supreme when it comes to cutting-edge visuals.

One peculiar tidbit about Crysis Remastered is the projected release platforms. It’s hardly a surprise that PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One are mentioned, but the real kicker is the Nintendo Switch. The handheld hybrid has established itself nicely as an unlikely platform for AAA game ports.

Seeing how the remaster is going to feature ray tracing and the launch of the next-gen systems is just around the corner, it’s not out of the question that the PS5 and Xbox Series X will get the game as well. In the meantime, gamers can look forward to experiencing a hallmark title in the FPS genre.
