Cult JRPG Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition out now for Consoles & PC

Another classic Japanese video game has made its way onto modern gaming systems with Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition. The remastered JRPG of the 2008 original is out now and available on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch for $49.99. Check out the launch trailer!

This passing week has been extraordinarily fruitful for fans of classic Japanese games. With the just recent tease and surprise release of Catherine Classic and now the launch of Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition it certainly seems so at least. While Catherine Classic came out of nowhere, Bandai Namco made sure to prepare both fans and their wallets last E3 when they announced the remaster.

With Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition, a true hidden gem among JRPGs has now become easily available for pretty much every gamer. Not only because the game is launching across every core gaming platform. You see, Tales of Vesperia originally came out a decade ago, in 2008, for the Xbox 360 exclusively in the West.

Microsoft pursued a very determined tactic in the early years of their last-gen gaming system, the Xbox 360. To conquer the hearts of Japanese gaming fans in the West, Microsoft managed to secure several big titles as Xbox 360 exclusives. Tales of Vesperia being one of them. It was a pretty big get as the Tales of franchise has quite the fan following. Needless to say, Microsoft’s plan didn’t really work out and most Japanese exclusives achieved little more than cult status among a niche. A shame, since we really enjoyed our time with Tales of Vesperia which you can read in our review here.

Now finally, every gamer has easy access to one of the most-beloved JRPG games of yesteryear. The remaster features extra content in form of new mini-games, bosses, characters, costumes and mystic arts, on top of higher resolutions and increased framerates. The well-done anime aesthetics also help in making the game a looker a decade on, too.
