Cyberpunk 2077 campaign ‘slightly shorter’ than The Witcher 3

It's still meaty

New details of CD Projekt’s much-touted action-RPG Cyberpunk 2077 have come to the surface. Not only did we get two new trailer of the gorgeous neon-drenched world of Night City, but we now also learn that the main story campaign will be a tad shorter than the developer’s previous open-world action-RPG The Witcher 3.

The information about the title’s length comes directly from the developer. Senior Quest Designer Patrick K. Mills shared the interesting detail in on Twitch in an AMA while chatting with streamers.

According to Wills, the story campaign of Cyberpunk 2077 will end up shorter than the campaign of The Witcher 3. But hold your horses! There is no need to be afraid that there won’t be enough content. Wills explained very calmly that the reason for this decision was deliberate since statistics showed that a large number of The Witcher 3 players never finished the story, to begin with.

The Witcher 3 is one of the best open-world action-RPGs of the generation and packed some serious content. It’s quite understandable that despite playing the game for dozens upon dozens of hours, you might still not see it to completion. There’s nothing wrong that inherently if it’s fun to player to create their own personal story while wandering the world and feeling content with it, that’s perfectly fine.

But with Cyberpunk 2077, the developers want as many players as possible to experience the entire story. And it’s not like Wills said the game will be short. It will be only slightly shorter. And when you think that The Witcher 3 can take players over 100 hours, it’s probably not going to matter a lot if they shave off some mediocre stuff to deliver a large but not too large experience.

Cyberpunk 2077 is due November 19th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Next-gen versions will launch in2021.
