Cyberpunk 2077 delayed to December 2020

Just as we were mere weeks away, Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed. CD Projekt Red has announced they’ll be taking an additional 21 days to get it completely right. While we have to imagine this really is the last delay, it’s a tough one for many to swallow.

CD Projekt Red’s further explained their reasoning for delaying Cyberpunk 2077 to December 10th in a tweet. The biggest challenge for us right now is shipping the game on current gen, next-gen, and PC at the same time which requires us to prepare 9 versions of it while working from home. Since Cyberpunk 2077 evolved towards almost being a next-gen title somewhere along the way, we need to make sure everything works well and every version runs smoothly,” said CD Projket Red.

CD Projket also understands that 21 days might not mean much to a game like Cyberpunk 2077 on the outside.

“We’re aware it might seem unrealistic when someone says that 21 days can make any difference in such a massive and complex game, but they really do.”

The response to the delay has been… less than enthusiastic on social media.

And, of course, there are some angry nerds raging in the replies to the original announcement. As you’d expect.

Cyberpunk 2077 recently went “gold”, meaning the game is content complete and is borderline done. CD Projekt Red just has high standards of quality, making them willing to delay the game multiple times.

Cyberpunk 2077 will release on December 10th, 2020.
