Cyberpunk 2077 had one of the most of controversial launches ever. Even if your experience was good, there’s no denying the chaos surrounding it. Bugs, lackluster console performance, downgrades, and more all plagued the RPG. It got so messy that Sony pulled the game from the PlayStation Store and full refunds were offered on all platforms.
Now, lawsuits are in motion. Investors have filed class action lawsuits noting the state of the game, misleading information from CD Projekt Red, amongst other things.
The class action suit reads as follows: “(1) Cyberpunk 2077 was virtually unplayable on the current-generation Xbox or Playstation systems due to an enormous number of bugs; (2) as a result, Sony would remove Cyberpunk 2077 from the Playstation store, and Sony, Microsoft and CD Projekt would be forced to offer full refunds for the game; (3) consequently, CD Projekt would suffer reputational and pecuniary harm; and (4) as a result, defendants’ statements about its business, operations, and prospects, were materially false and misleading and/or lacked a reasonable basis at all relevant times. When the true details entered the market, the lawsuit claims that investors suffered damages.”
There is currently no information regarding what compensation is being sought.
CD Projekt Red has noted they will be taking a stance to defend themselves as best possible. “The Company will undertake vigorous action to defend itself against any such claims,” reads a statement.
Of course, with suits like this, it’ll take time to resolve. Cyberpunk 2077 has already had a few hotfixes and two large patches are scheduled for the start of 2021. By the time we see any sort of resolution, we’ll likely have a much more stable version of the game. It’s also highly likely the next-gen versions of the game will also be released by then.
As of right now, Cyberpunk 2077 has sold 13 million copies and had the biggest PC launch of all-time. Cyberpunk 2077 is out now on Xbox One, PS4 (not digitally), and PC.
