Cyberpunk 2077 has been removed from PlayStation; Refunds offered

Cyberpunk 2077 has had one of the most controversial video game launches ever. It was widely anticipated, expected to be one of the best games of the generation. It was sadly the polar opposite. A plethora of bugs and awful performance on last-gen consoles like PlayStation 4 led to things like a 4/10 from IGN.

Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red apologized earlier this week, offering refunds. Turns out, they didn’t actually mean they were offering refunds. They told players later they could use the refund systems from their retailers, which make it extremely difficult to refund if you’ve played the game. This blew up in CD Projekt Red’s face once again. Now, Sony has removed Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store and will refund those with digital copies.

This is an unprecedented move for consoles. We’ve seen this happen to some PC games like Batman: Arkham Knight but as far as we can recall, never on consoles for a big launch like this. Sony Interactive Entertainment released the following statement.

“SIE strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, therefore we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store. SIE will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice.”

Microsoft has also made the choice to offer refunds for the game on Xbox. They will leave the game up for purchase but anyone who wants a refund for the game will be granted one now.

It’s unclear when Cyberpunk 2077 will return to the PlayStation Store. The game is still available on a physical disc but as of right now, you can’t purchase it digitally. We’ll be sure to update you when the game returns to the digital marketplace. CD Projekt Red did say they’ll have new patches in January and February. It’s possible the game will return when those release, if they fix the game enough.
