Cyberpunk 2077 will have Microtransactions but only in Multiplayer

Oh boy, we now have direct confirmation straight from the developer’s mouth that the highly anticipated action-RPG Cyberpunk 2077 will indeed feature microtransactions. Everybody’s favorite in-game monetization will thankfully only be present in the game’s multiplayer mode, however. So, take a deep breath and stay positive that the CD Projekt Red will once again deliver on their promise.

The news comes from the most recent earnings call where CD Projekt President Adam Kiciński answered questions. One of these questions inquired the company how aggressive the monetization plans for Cyberpunk 2077 are. In particular the multiplayer mode.

Kiciński was very clear in his answer, stating that CD Projekt always treated its players with respect and never went for aggressive microtransaction strategies. His remarks are very candid and ought to soothe any fears that the beloved game creator is shifting towards more intrusive in-game monetization schemes.

We’re never aggressive towards our fans! We treat them fairly and we’re friendly. So of course not –we won’t be aggressive –but you can expect great things to be bought. The goal is to design monetization in a way that makes people happy to spend money. I’m not trying to be cynical or hide something; it’s about creating a feeling of value. – Adam Kiciński

Still, the mere notion that microtransactions are going to be present in the game led to many disappointed fans. After all, the developer openly claimed that Cyberpunk 2077 would not feature any MTX. The developers have now issued a statement via Twitter that since MTX are only present in the multiplayer mode and since they regard that portion of the game as a separate project, they did tell the truth.

After all, Cyberpunk 2077’s major allure is its immersive singleplayer campaign. No one really expects the MP mode to be anything more than a novelty. CD Projekt Red has always shined in creating incredible experiences for solo gamers. With the confirmation that MTX will only be in multiplayer and that they are going to be ‘fair and friendly‘, gamers who are looking forward to the game can rest assured.

Cyberpunk 2077 comes out on November 19th for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia. Next-gen ports for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series are slated for 2021 as a free upgrade for previous owners.
