Dark Souls 2’s open world ‘will be unique for all players’

From Software is creating a new, more much open world for Dark Souls 2 than what players saw in the previous title.

Game director Yui Tanimura told Digital Spy, "In Dark Souls 2, we're hoping we can provide more freedom so things don't have to necessarily be done in a certain order," unlike in Dark Souls 1.

"We're hoping that if the player tries hard enough, or are willing enough, they could even start halfway through the game, depending on how willing or how brave they are," said Tanimura.

The way players reach the final stages of the game "will be unique for all players, I think," he said.

Dark Souls 2 is coming out for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, but open progression was also a common theme among many of the next-gen games we saw at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) last month, probably due to advancements in cloud technology.
