While the identity of “EA Louse” still remains a mystery, that isn’t stopping other game developers from attacking the anonymous disgruntled BioWare Mythic employee and the long rant he or she posted this week on a WordPress blog.
Outspoken game developer David Jaffe responded on his personal blog yesterday. In it, the God of War and Twisted Metal creator suggests that maybe EA Louse has some unrealistic expectations about his or her job.
“It’s not a f#&$ing art class where everyone gets a chance to ‘show what’s inside them!’…it’s work,” Jaffe writes. “Games SHOULD allow for self expression by members of the team- that is FANTASTIC when that happens and something management should always try to offer up- but it’s gotta be within context of and in service to the product.”
Meanwhile, freelance illustrator Jeff Preston has also responded to the rant in his own blog post, where he calls EA Louse a coward for “hiding behind a facade of internet anonymity.”
“The passive-aggressive sniping from a wall of anonymity is for pussies. Bitches who have this sense of entitlement. The world owes them! Writing posts like that just stirs up a s***storm and enrages the mob. The Mob who really knows f*** all about it means to work in a studio like this and what goes in to game development, especially on a licensed product.”
He then goes on to defend the various BioWare Mythic managers who were targets in EA Louse’s post, such as Paul Barnett, Kate Flack and Jeff Hickman, who he says is one of his dearest friends and best man at his wedding.
“This whole tirade by EA Louse has me in stitches at the short-sightedness of it. People have no idea what the current management at EA Mythic has done since launch so safeguard people’s jobs. Just no f***ing idea. Instead there is just an anonymous letter to stir up a lunch mob of people who know nothing about what’s going on. The truth…it doesn’t matter. ‘If it bleeds it leads’ right? If you get enough buzz, and cry loud enough, people will believe you. People will believe what they want to believe.”
