DayZ enjoys 40,000 concurrent users in first week of alpha

The DayZ standalone, which was release to the public in Alpha form last month, recorded more than 40,000 concurrent users at one point, developer Bohemia revealed. In a post celebrating the first week of DayZ's Early Access on Steam, the developer revealed some pretty impressive numbers for the game.

For example, over "400,000 survivors have entered Chernarus," which is a themed way of saying the game sold over 400,000 copies in its first week. DayZ managed to sell over 170,000 copies in the first 24 hours alone.

While Bohemia is celebrating the sales success of the game, there's admittedly plenty of work still left to be done. In just the first week, three patches have been released and game creator Dean "Rocket" Hall posted a lengthy outline of "immediate future plans."

The DayZ developers have been on a holiday break for the latter half of December, but it looks like things will pick up again in full in January.
