DayZ standalone sales surpass 1 million sold

The DayZ standalone has only been available in Alpha for four weeks and already its sales have already surpassed one million copies sold through Steam's Early Access. The new number comes from Bohemia Interactive CEO Maruk Spanel who provided the update via Twitter.

Though still in early alpha, DayZ standalone is designed as a full-fledged retail version of the old Arma II mod created by Dean Hall. It's an open-world survival horror hybrid-MMO game in which players must fight to survive in a harsh post-apocalyptic world for as long as they can. If you die, you lose everything and must start from the beginning with no items.

It doesn't appear that users are turned off by the bugs found in an early alpha, though expectations could've been tempered by the early warnings given by Dean Hall. While successful sales of DayZ have had a "very positive effect" on the development of the game, it's not expected to enter beta until the end of 2014.
