DC’s Shazam finds its leading man in Zachary Levi

Here's the face of Earth's Mightiest Mortal.

It took a little while, but Shazam finally has a face in the DC movieverse as THR is reporting that Zachary Levi has signed on to be Earth's Mightiest Mortal. Levi is mostly known for his starring role on Chuck, NBC's spy comedy that ran from 2007 through 2012, though he has also appeared in Marvel's Thor films as Fandral and even had a role in Heroes Reborn.

What's unclear from the report is whether or not the film will have Levi play both Shazam and then dress him down for Billy Batson, who is supposed to be a child when he gets his powers. It's possible that this new version of Shazam could push him up to be a teenager for the sake of convenience as Levi does have a young face, but even still, Levi himself is 37 years old, so that is pushing it.

Shazam Director David F. Sandberg recently confirmed that the film will launch in April of 2019, and will be the solo movie that follows Aquaman. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is set to play Black Adam, but will appear in his own solo film because it would be weird if The Rock weren't the star of a movie. Shazam is said to be more "lighthearted" in tone since the movie focuses on a kid that gets to live out his dream of being a superhero.
