Dead by Daylight Adding a Classic Slasher for Halloween

Dead by Daylight, the assymetrical survival horror game has been likened to 80s slasher films of yesteryear. It features four players controlling teenaged campers and one player as an overpowered murderer chasing them. It turns out that the comparison to movies like Nightmare on Elmstreet, Halloween, and Friday the 13th were not completely unfounded after the Halloween update of Dead by Daylight was announced.

Halloween star Michael Myers will be in the Halloween update for Dead by Daylight. Players opting to play as the murderer will be able to choose Michael Myers as their slasher. Those playing the teenagers will also be able to choose Laurie Strode as their character, completing the reference to the classic film. The cherry on top is a new suburban themed map to more or less recreate Halloween.

Mathieu Cote, producer of Dead by Daylight says, "We wanted to make sure the first one we put in, would be a critical one […] We wanted to go for one of the more iconic and impressive figures of horror. I mean, I think Michael Myers is one of the most recognisable villains in movie history.” Originally, the development team declinded adding existing established characters to first establish their own canon, but it seems the chance to add arguably the most iconic horror movie villain ever is too good to pass up.

Dead by Daylight is a five player game where four players use what they can to escape from their assailent.  The player controlled serial killer is over-powered, which makes the 4-on-1 scenario make more sense, but the point isn't to kill him, it's to escape. It's clear that the studio behind the game was inspired by these classic slasher films and are big fans, considering the concept of the game had been an idea for a long time before a line of code was ever typed. So their addition of Michael Myers come to no surprise, but to all of the excitement.
